New NTC thermistors for high-precision temperature measurement at high temperatures

Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (hereinafter "Murata") has developed an SMD type NTC thermistor capable of both high-precision temperature measurement at high temperatures and excellent cost performance. This new NTC thermistor expands Murata’s existing lineup of NCU Series and NCP Series products. Mass production has already begun, and samples can also be provided.

 

As electronic devices, such as smartphones and tablet PCs, become more powerful and as electric vehicles become more popular, the load on electronic components is increasing, generating more heat. This is a serious issue as heat can impact application performance efficiency. This is especially true in the automotive industry, which has seen a massive increase in the number of highly functional ICs and electronic components installed in electric vehicles and self-driving vehicles. These vehicles are expected to generate even more heat, and thermal design is becoming increasingly important. High-precision temperature detection at high temperatures is now required to efficiently provide application performance even in the high‐temperature range.
Murata has now leveraged its process technologies to develop an SMD type NTC thermistor capable of both high-precision temperature measurement at high temperatures and excellent cost performance. Murata will continue to expand its product lineup to meet market needs and help bring various electronic devices and automobiles to the next level.

Temperature error characteristics

The blue lines in the graphs indicate the temperature detection precision of the new product. It is significantly improved over that of Product F, and approaches the precision of highly precise Product D.
